Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  The Market Is Open for Orders

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown market

will be open for your orders till Tuesday evening at 10 pm.

The Wednesday Market:  The Wednesday Market is Open

Good evening.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your order by 10 p.m. Monday. Orders are ready for pick up between 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday. See the website for this week’s product offerings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

While Memorial Day weekend is touted as the unofficial start to summer, the true purpose of the holiday is to honor those who have died in military service for the United States. Have you ever wondered why red poppies are associated with Memorial Day? According to the American Legion’s website, after World War I, “The red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed during battle following the publication of the wartime poem In Flanders Fields.” Click on this link to read the poem and to learn more about the American Legion’s distribution of red poppies: https://www.legion.org/poppyday/history

On another note, last week I shared an inspiring quote from Gary Black, and referred to him as Georgia’s agricultural commissioner. The remarks were made in 2020, when Mr. Black was still serving as Ag Commissioner. Mr. Black should have been identified as the former commissioner. Tyler Harper is the current Georgia Agricultural Commissioner, having taken office on January 9, 2023. I apologize for the error.

Thank you for for supporting Georgia Grown. Have a great weekend. We’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,
Beverly

P.S. If you have questions about your order, please contact Nelda. She is available by text, email, or phone call.

MISC MARKET NOTES

A Little Culture Never Hurts

Did you know there was a Smithsonian exhibit on display locally? Your market manager recently got an almost private tour of the exhibit. Crossroads: Change in Rural America is a traveling exhibit that looks at the remarkable evolution in rural life over the past century — and explores how Americans have responded and adapted. It is paired with local programming and allows visitors to consider the central role of rural Alabama in our shared future. The Ann Rudd Art Center in Ozark is the first of five stops statewide for the exhibit.

The reason it’s being shared here is that its about folks like us, folks who grew up in small towns or the country and have seen a lot of changes. It covers history, farming, small town life, cultural issues and challenges. My favorite takeaway was a quote from Garth Brooks: “You aren’t wealthy until you have something money can’t buy.”

Retro picnic

The exhibit is called Crossroads: Change in Rural America and is on display till June 15. Learn more about it by clicking https://www.wtvy.com/2024/04/24/ann-rudd-art-center-unveils-crossroads-change-rural-america-art-exhibit/ or posting the link in your browser.

Grower Notes

Mount Moriah Farms: Hello Everyone! We are definitely working through adjusting to life with a toddler and an infant! Loving every minute of it too. First off thank you to everyone who purchased from us at the Mother’s Day event! Your support means so much to us. We are currently milking 10 goats on our multi-goat stanchion and it helps cut time so much. We are all about trying to find ways to cut time so we have more time for the tiny humans! The market season has started up so we are busy making products. Before too long we will be breeding our does back to the buck for winter kids. The list is always full of “To Dos” but we are trying to make the most of every day, not letting the time go by too fast. Enjoy this life you are given!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Forget Christmas – THIS is the most wonderful time of the year! Fresh vegetables abound with endless ways to prepare them. What follows is a hodpodge of deliciousness featuring veggies that are ready to order right now! The best thing – most summer squashs are interchangeable in these recipes. Don’t have a zucchini? A zephyr will substitute quite nicely.

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Clayton, Clarkesville, or Gainesville.

If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION after you finish the checkout process, then your order is NOT complete. Head back to the market page, and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.

Once you place an order, be on the lookout for the order reminder email on Wednesday with further pickup and payment notes. Thanks for your support!

Thank you to all the lovers of local food who supported Main Street Russellville by attending Taste of the Valley, bidding on their silent auction items and shopping at our open house event last Tuesday! It was an impressive celebration of local food! Thank you to our amazing vendors, as well! They did a great job sharing their knowledge and passion with the customers and helping people taste the difference buying local makes! Even though you are busy celebrating Memorial Day this week, don’t forget to shop online at RCM and re-stock that pantry for the upcoming week! Monday may be a holiday, but order pick-up will proceed as usual Tuesday afternoon. If your favorite vendor is on vacation this week, maybe it’s a great time to try something new! There are plenty of tasty baked goods, handcrafted candies, fantastic eggs, fresh herbs, local meats, garden supplies and more!
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

RCM accepts cash, checks, credit and debit cards and SNAP/EBT transactions.

Check back frequently as our farmers regularly update what they have available. Multiple orders are encouraged. :)
